Office of Municipal Services – Temporary Department Assistant
34 hour a week temporary position responsible for clerical services and functions in support of Building, Planning, Zoning, Conservation, Public Health with special emphasis on customer service and organization. Must be a high school graduate, additional education/training in secretarial science or business administration is preferred; and four years of experience in secretarial and administrative work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires thorough knowledge of office procedures, practices and terminology, complete knowledge of use of office and data processing equipment and current software for general office use; business arithmetic, business English and spelling; basic knowledge of bookkeeping techniques. Thorough knowledge of related pertinent laws preferred. Required to organize time, work independently and accomplish tasks despite frequent interruptions. Ability to maintain detailed statistics, records; ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public; ability to maintain confidential information, compose correspondence, prepare and proofread reports, and communicate effectively with public, co-workers, officials, and other agencies; ability to instruct the public.
Starting salary: $24 per hour. Position open until filled. Hours are Monday – Thursday 8AM – 4PM and Friday 8AM – 12PM.
