On a sunny and sizzling Friday afternoon, with the occasional sounds of commuter rail trains in the distance, Mass DOT and the Town of Acton hosted an ARRT ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the Maynard and Acton trail sections at the new Acton trail head on Maple Street, just steps away from the South Acton commuter rail station. Together with Rep. Kate Hogan, Sen. Jamie Eldridge, Maynard BOS Chairman, Chris DiSilva, and several other local officials, DOT Highway Administrator, Jonathan Gulliver, and DOT Secretary/CEO, Stephanie Pollack declared the new trail sections officially open on August 10th, with close to 100 spectators, cyclists, and press looking on. Construction stories and personal perspectives of the 10+ year endeavor were shared, and enthusiasm throughout the crowd was palpable. Maynard is grateful to all residents, staff, and local and state officials for their tireless support in seeing this project through to fruition, and we look forward to welcoming trail riders and visitors to Maynard by way of the trail for years to come. More information on the project can be found at the ARRT website: http://arrtinc.org/.
