The Maynard Cultural Council is excited to announce that it has selected the recipients for the “Summer Spruce-Up” Grant Program. Funding, totaling $5,000.00, was awarded to the Assabet Village Cultural District by the Massachusetts Cultural Council for making façade and exterior improvements throughout the downtown Maynard area. The five winning applicants were The ArtSpace; Ray & Son Cycle and Ski; Open Table; Excelsior Comics and Games; and 82 Main Street (The Sanctuary).
Jeffrey Swanberg, Maynard Cultural Council Chair stated that they were “seeking grant proposals that went beyond a simple coat of paint and special consideration was given to applications emphasizing a creative approach to enhancing street view appeal.” and he added that they “were thrilled by the number of applicants they received”. He also noted that the $5000 was generously matched by the Economic Development Committee through the BEEP program.
Maynard’s cultural district, known as “Assabet Village Cultural District”, encompasses all of Downtown, the Mill and Main campus, Art Space, Library and the Fine Arts Theater, among other destinations. The Maynard Cultural Council serves as the Board of Directors for the District. As custodians of the Assabet Village Cultural District, the Cultural Council will continue with efforts to establish Maynard as a world-class cultural and arts destination.
