The Maynard Cultural Council is in the midst of an unprecedented era of creativity and place-making, and is looking for three new members. Council Chair, Jeff Swanberg noted, “We have a number of members who, by statute, cannot serve more than two consecutive terms. We have so much going on right now; we can’t afford much downtime. This is a great opportunity for those who want to get involved with their community. As custodians of the Assabet Village Cultural District, the Cultural Council will continue with efforts to establish Maynard as a world-class cultural and arts destination.”
According to Swanberg, there is no doubt that much of Maynard’s recent economic development success is at least partially due to Maynard’s abundance of cultural and entertainment offerings. “Businesses recognize that a cultural atmosphere is an attraction to many employees, professionals and innovators.”
The Maynard Cultural Council serves as the local representative of the Massachusetts Cultural Council for the purpose of supporting arts and humanities initiatives in Maynard by granting funds allocated to the town by the Commonwealth.
“Serving on the Cultural Council offers an opportunity for residents to play an integral part in one of most important ingredients that makes Maynard so special. Additionally with the establishment of the Assabet Village Cultural District, there is a mechanism to systematically strengthen Maynard as an art, cultural and entertainment destination” said acting Town Administrator, Andrew Scribner-MacLean.”
