Maynard resident Tim Hess was named among the award recipients from the Central Massachusetts chapter of the American Institute of Architects for his design of a painter’s studio and residence called Slipped Shed Studio in South Dartmouth.
Sited with views down the Slocum River, the building employs active and passive solar design, and a thermal envelope in an updated shingle-style vocabulary.
In designating the project an Honorable Mention for Design Excellence, a jury of New Hampshire AIA architects called the design “fun and whimsical,” and noted “the interiors are fantastic.”
Hess designed the building in 2011, while working as a principal at Concord’s Dewing Schmid Kearns Architects and Planners. He founded Studio InSitu Architects Inc. in Maynard in 2014.
